Learn More About the Benefits of Massage

Massage is generally considered part of complementary and alternative medicine. It's increasingly being offered along with standard treatment for a wide range of medical conditions and situations.

Studies of the benefits of massage demonstrate that it is an effective treatment for reducing stress, pain and muscle tension. Below are just some of the effects massage can have on the body as mentioned by Fiona Rattray in the text "CLinical Massage Therapy".

  • Promote Relaxation and decrease Stress

Massage can help with reducing anxiety, stress and depression. It can help to give a patient a sense of well being and relaxation after their massage.

  • Move better, feel better

Massage can relax muscles, decrease spasms and help to decrease trigger points, fibrosis and adhesions. It can also help with improving resting muscle length.

  • Promote Better Circulation

Although a transient effect, massage can help increase local circulation temporarily. Because of this, approptiate techniques can be utilized for those with cardiac, hypertension as well as stressed clients.

  • Pain Control

Massage can reduce or help manage pain. Massage can address the source of the pain and stop the painful nerve from firing. It can help break the pain cycle that can often begin when there is reduced oxygen to tissue.
